The Ironware International Story

 

Ironware International is responsible for the distribution of Atelier Picard, established by master craftsman Pierre Picard in 1966. A maitre artisan in the antique tradition of blacksmithing, Pierre Picard was only 14 when he started training, with his apprenticeship spanning a total of 5 years. Considerable background and experience in the field allowed him to establish Atelier Picard in 1966, steering the company to further growth for during the next two decades. During this period Picard did customized projects for residential installations and restoration work on various iron structures. In 1985, Karin Eaton – who then owned a store of French antiques – stumbled upon the beautiful handiwork of Picard, and within a short period Ironware International was born. The company distributes the timeless, carefully handcrafted creations of Atelier Picard to the U.S. markets, highly acclaimed for their excellent design and craftsmanship.

 

To carry on with the time-honored tradition of antique blacksmithing, son-in-law Thierry Duboscq trained under Picard for 15 years. Today Duboscq heads the blacksmithing division of Atelier Picard as Master Blacksmith, having also trained David, his son, to sustain an almost half a century of iron-forging legacy.
