Though Brunschwig and Fils began as a tapestry mill in France, the company swiftly diversified. By the 1920s, Brunschwig and Fils had opened a flagship shop in New York City. Founder Achille Brunschwig's son Captain Roger E. Brunschwig ran the New York City outpost of Brunschwig and Fils. Achille Brunschwig’s wife Zelina Comegys Brunschwig later joined Captain Roger E. Brunschwig. The Brunschwigs developed Brunschwig and Fils into a global brand, recognized across the world for quality fabrics, trimmings and wallpapers. Today, Brunschwig and Fils wallpaper is celebrated for its centuries of heritage, incredible quality and creative patterns. Now, Kravet, Inc. produces and distributes designer Brunschwig and Fils wallpaper and fabrics. Shoppers can find more than five hundred Brunschwig and Fils wallpaper designs on the L.A. Design Concepts website.
Brunschwig and Fils Chinoiserie Wallpaper
In our recent post “Five Classic Patterns Reimagined in Contemporary Wallpaper,” we briefly outlined the history of Chinoiserie. We noted that the many Chinese and Japanese-inspired motifs common in Chinoiserie are in furniture, wallpaper, ceramics and other home goods. Chinoiserie became popular in the 17th and 18th centuries as Europe traded more with Eastern countries. The style fell out of favor as tensions rose between the UK and China during the 19th century. Despite this, motifs of Chinoiserie remain popular today. Vibrant and inviting, Brunschwig and Fils Chinoiserie wallpaper is particularly popular.
The Summer Palace Wallpapers collection from Brunschwig and Fils offers three stunning Chinoiserie wallpapers we love. First is the Brunschwig and Fils Chinoiserie wallpaper Tongli, which is available in six saturated colorways. Next is the Brunschwig and Fils Chinoiserie wallpaper Luang, which boasts a softer, more delicate repeating pattern. Luang is a cross between a toile and a chinoiserie wallpaper. Last in our list of popular Brunschwig and Fils Chinoiserie wallpaper designs is Jardin Fleuri, which meshes chintz with chinoiserie. Find each of these Brunschwig and Fils wallpaper designs on the L.A. Design Concepts website.

With its playful spots and delicate stripes, Brunschwig and Fils Les Touches fabric remains one of the brand’s most popular. Brunschwig and Fils Bird and Thistle
The Brunschwig and Fils Bird and Thistle print is one of the brand’s most enduringly popular designs. A delicate toile with sweet birds poised on winding branches, Brunschwig and Fils Bird and Thistle was created using the copperplate printing technique. Printers chose this technique instead of block printing because it offers more detail. By the mid-19th century when Brunschwig and Fils began producing textiles for French and American buyers, copperplate printing was widely used in fabric production. In the Spring of 1976, Brunschwig and Fils introduced new versions of their Bird and Thistle print to buyers. However, it was not until 2007 that Brunschwig and Fils Bird and Thistle was released as a wallpaper. Shop Brunschwig and Fils Bird and Thistle wallpaper here.
