Zoffany Wallcovering Prints We Love

Though Sanderson Design acquired Zoffany in 2003, the brand began as an autonomous wallpaper company in the early 1980s. After the oil crisis of the 1970s, production of hand-painted luxury wallpapers slowed. High-quality wallcoverings were replaced by mass-produced papers that could easily compete with house paint. By the time Zoffany entered the market, it was one of very few luxury brands offering exceptionally crafted wallcoverings. The brand’s first collection recreated the painstakingly hand-painted botanical wallpapers of Temple Newsam, an historic 11th century estate in Leeds. Historic wallpapers in good condition dating to early 19th century China were readily visible in Temple Newsam at the time. However, fragments of papers dating to the early 17th century were found during renovations of the estate in the 1970s. Zoffany & Co formed shortly after this discovery with an intent to produce careful replicas of the centuries old designs.

Zoffany Wallpaper Palladio Collection

Zoffany wallcoverings recently launched the Palladio Collection. This collection pairs the iconic designs of Robert and Roger Nicholson with the innovative approach of artist Sam Wilde. Populated by bold color stories, large-scale prints and retro patterns, the Palladio Collection feels fresh and vintage at the same time.



While Robert and Roger Nicholson curated the original Palladio Collection more than sixty years ago, Wilde is a new addition. A recent graduate of the Royal College of Art, Wilde contributes his 2018 Precarious Pangolins print to the collection. Rooted in a passion for ecological conservation and supported by his background in the natural sciences, Wilde’s print is both charming and powerful.

Zoffany Style Library

Beginning in 2017, Zoffany wallcoverings were searchable under the umbrella brand “Style Library,” alongside several other heritage brands. After careful consideration, the owner of these iconic British brands decided to regroup under the Zoffany name. Announcing the change in March 2020, CEO Beth Holman noted that Zoffany has always resonated most strongly with American interior designers.

Zoffany Verdure Wallpaper

Zoffany’s Verdure Wallpaper was inspired by 17th century pastoral wall hangings similar to those found in Temple Newsam. In 2012, decorative artist Melissa White collaborated with Zoffany on a reimagined collection of the brand’s Verdure wallpaper. As White’s career started with the artist reproducing wall paintings in Tudor houses alongside David Cutmore, her collaboration with Zoffany was the perfect fit. White has also collaborated with Lewis & Wood, Kit Kemp and Andrew Martin and several other notable brands.



Her work can also be found in the Shakespeare's Birthplace museum and in Buckingham Palace. To create the Verdure Wallpapers for Zoffany, White engraved and hand-painted motifs on gessoed canvas. Shortly after its release, Melissa White’s Verdure Wallpaper for Zoffany won the 2012 Homes and Gardens Best Printed Fabric Award. Verdure Wallpaper is available in two soft color stories - Lead Blue and Tapestry Green.

Zoffany Richmond Park Wallpaper

Pulled straight from the archives, Zoffany Richmond Park Wallpaper is available in four colorways - Mid Winter, Charcoal, Nightfall and Evergreen. With soft lines and muted tones, Zoffany’s Richmond Park Wallpaper offers the gentility of a watercolor and the drama of a block print. Richmond Park’s Mid Winter colorway joins pale gray, white, beige and light lilac. In the Evergreen colorway of Zoffany Richmond Park Wallpaper, shadows and highlights are beautifully rendered across the sycamore tree leaves.

Zoffany Romey's Garden Wallpaper

Romey’s Garden Wallpaper was designed by South African botanical artist Kelly Higgs, who has long been inspired by Chinoiserie and other floral motifs. Higgs studied graphic design and worked as a designer in the UK early in her career. However, she has since moved back to South Africa. Her first solo exhibition was held in Johannesburg in 2003, to wide critical acclaim. Since then, Higgs has exhibited across the UK and South Africa while collaborating with a number of esteemed interiors and apparel brands.



In addition to her collection with Zoffany, Higgs has also collaborated with Bloss & Co, Sainsbury’s UK and Museums & Galleries. Higgs’ Zoffany Romey’s Garden Wallpaper collection resembles the climbing vine floral arrangement common to 18th century Chinese wallpapers. Peony branches and blossoms were frequently repeated motifs in Chinese wallpapers. Part of the Woodville collection, Zoffany Romey’s Garden wallpaper can be found in five colorways.

Zoffany Peacock Garden Wallpaper

Zoffany Peacock Garden Wallpaper is another large scale landscape, narrative wallpaper one would not be surprised to find on the walls of a Tudor. Muralist Melissa White designed the Peacock Garden Wallpaper as part of her Arden Collection for Zoffany. The Peacock Garden Wallpaper was inspired by her work replicating Elizabethan wall paintings. Digitally printed by Zoffany, the brand’s Peacock Garden Wallpaper captures every brushstroke and stipple of White’s original painting. Resembling a lush Indian garden, this Zoffany bird wallpaper depicting peacocks is a stunning example of White's work.
